Malaga Airport in a nutshell

The airport of Malaga, in the south of Spain, is located eight kilometres to the south-west of the city. It is one of Spain's oldest airports. The airport used to be known as El Rompezido. In 2005, Malaga Airport processed over 12.5 million passengers, In the peak season, Malaga Airport is so busy that the waiting periods at the check-in counters may be very long. This is due to the growing flow of tourists headed for the Costa del Sol in Spain. Early 2006, a start has been made with extensions, to reduce waiting periods.

There is a direct rail connection to Malaga, and the airport is also easy to reach by road. Although there are no hotels at the airport, there is a hotel reservation desk.

There are a limited number of shops, there is no business centre and the airport does not offer luggage storage facilities. People who are interested in Spain's aviation history can visit the National aviation museum that is located at the airport.
