Caracas Airport is officially called Aeropuerto Internacional de Maiquetia Simón Bolívar and is named after a South American freedom fighter. In popular speech the airport is also known as Maiquetia Airport, after its location.
The airport is situated 21 kilometers northwest of the city center of Caracas, Venezuela's capital. There's no train connection with the airport, but there are bus connections between the airport and the center of the Venezuelan capital. The airport is easily reachable by car via the freeway (autopista).
The airport is equipped with a beautiful and extensive shopping area and many restaurants, especially in the international terminal.
