Car Rental Greymouth Train Station

General information

The historical train station of Greymouth is situated on the wild West Coast of New Zealand. From the small wooden train station in Greymouth a track runs straight across the mountains to Christchurch. Greymouth is located on the South Island on the Grey River. On a clear day you can see Mount Anoraki/Mount Cook south of Greymouth. The train to Christchurch is heated in the winter and air-conditioned in the summer. It also has an open-air carriage to take pictures of the impressive scenery; here you can also get something to eat and drink (with or without alcohol).

Transportation

If you want to visit the South Island you can for example take the bus to Hokitika, Fox Glacier, Franz Josef Glacier, Punakaiki, Westport and Nelson. There's a taxi service but it's also easy to rent a car in Greymouth. You can for example choose from the car rental companies NZ Rent a Car, Thrifty Car, Rental, and Apex Car Rentals.

Services

The train to Christchurch runs once a day. The station doesn't have a lot of facilities.

Restaurants and shops

There are several restaurants and bars in town ranging from pizzerias to nice coffee shops. Next to the train station there's a large supermarket and 'The Warehouse', where you can buy all kind of products for the rest of your trip.
