The international airport of the Bulgarian capital Sofia was completely renovated in 2006. In addition to the old Terminal 1, there is now also a new Terminal 2. It is now a modern airport with excellent facilities. Terminal 1 is used only for budget airlines and chartered flights.
There is a no train connection to the airport of Sofia. The airport is located 10 kilometres to the east of the centre of Sofia, and the route between the city and the airport is clearly indication. A bus will take you to the city centre in 20 minutes.
There are no hotels at the airport. There are a reasonable number of fairly simple (snack) bars and cafés. Also, there is a large duty-free shop in Terminal 2. On the second floor of Terminal 2 there is a Business Class Lounge, where you can fax, copy and read foreign newspapers and magazines. There are also computers with Internet connection. Also, there are banks, exchange offices and a cash machine and post office. The First Aid station is located on the ground floor of Terminal 2. The new terminal is very accessible to disabled people.
