Hahn is a hamlet in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in the German Rhineland-Palatinate state. It's mainly known for the former military airport which is now used by low-cost airlines.
The village has less than 200 inhabitants.
Hahn is located in the west of Germany, on the Hunsrück hills which form the watershed between the Nahe and Moselle rivers.
The village's economy revolves around the airport. When the Americans left the military airport, it was a heavy blow to the inhabitants of Hahn. Fortunately low-cost airlines choose the airport to carry out cheap flights. Although there are sometimes complaints about the noise nuisance of planes taking off or landing, Hahn is quite pleased with the increased activity at the airport.
The airport is referred to as Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, although Frankfurt is situated at 120 kilometers east of the airport. The airport is easily reachable by rental car; it's close to highway A-61 (exit Rheinböllen). The route to the airport is clearly signposted.
In Hahn itself there's no public transport. There are regional busses from the airport to cities in the vicinity (among others to Frankfurt, Cologne, Mainz and Trier).
A rental car is an ideal means of transportation to discover the surroundings of Hahn (Rheinland en de Hunsrück). You drive on rural roads through a pretty landscape. Parking is no problem.
There are only two accommodations in Hahn: Gisela`s Residenz and Sniders Place.
