Alicante Airport is located nine kilometres to the south-west of Alicante on the Spanish east coast. It is the gateway to the Costa Blanca, an important holiday destination. The airport mostly processes international flights. In 2004, the airport processed 8.5 million passengers.
At the airport, there are many buses, but they are almost all rental buses. There is only one bus line with a stop outside the airport terminal, which arrives every 40 minutes, at least according to the timetable. There are no hotels at the airports.
Costa Blanca Plaza is the airport's shopping and food area. There are eight cafés and four restaurants. In addition, there are three duty-free shops and a few very nice gift shops. There are no conferencing facilities, but there is a VIP-Lounge, with telephone, fax and Internet facilities. The VIP-Lounge is only open to Business Class passengers. Also, the airport has a 24 hour First Aid station, money exchange machines, ATM machines, and a pharmacy.
