In Italian, this airport is referred to as Aeroporto di Catania-Fontanarossa. It also called Catania International Airport. The airport is located near Catania on the east coast. It is the busiest airport of this Mediterranean island. In 2005, it processed more than 5 million passengers. The airport is located seven kilometres outside of Catania, and can be reached by car, taxi or bus.

There is no hotel on the airport grounds. There are two shops and a coffee shop. In 2006, a new terminal will open, which will mean a considerable expansion of the number of shops, bars and restaurants. There is a bank that is only open on workdays, but the ATM machine is available 24 hours a day.
