Bucharest Airport in a nutshell

The full name of the airport of Bucharest is Coanda/Otopeni International Airport, and it is located 16 kilometres to the north of the Romanian capital. The airport is located near the town of Otopeni. The airport is growing fast: in 2007, it is expected to process 4.5 million passengers. There are two terminals (domestic/international), which are connected by a free shuttle bus.

There is no train connection (yet) to the airport, but there are plans to build a light-rail connection. There is a special bus from the airport to the centre of Bucharest. Due to the many stops on the way, this is not the fastest of connections.

There are no hotels at the airport. In the international departure hall there are a few (snack) bars and restaurants. In addition, there are various machines for coffee, tea, soda drinks and snacks. The number of shops is modest. The VIP Lounges offers facilities like fax, copying and Internet. There is a bank at the airport and in the International arrival and departure halls there are cash machines and exchange offices. There is a post office, and Internet café, a barber and a chemist's/pharmacy. There are special telephones everywhere with which to call the First Aid station. Also, the airport is accessible to disabled people.
