Up to 1864, Flensburg belonged to Denmark. There is still a significant Danish minority in the city. Earlier, Flensburg was a thriving merchant city, to which many merchant houses still testify. Furthermore, the local beer, Flensburger Pilsener (shortly named Flens), is famous. It is bottled in swing top bottles, and you can visit the brewery for free.
