The city has 125,000 inhabitants.

Location

Pescara is located in central Italy along the eastern Adriatic coast. The city is situated at the mouth of the Pescara River, which has its origin in the Apennines, where the river is called the Aterno. There are wide sand beaches, both on the north and the south of the Pescara estuary.

The local economy mainly depends on tourism during the summer. Furthermore there is industrial activity, mainly in the valley of the Pescara river where cheap electricity is provided by hydro-electric power stations. In the region between Pescara and Chieti there is textile and chemical industry. Other important sectors are the food industry and the production of building materials. Pescara has a good public transport network, nonetheless, do not be surprised if a bus ride gets cancelled due to an unknown reason. There are also bus connections to other towns and villages in the region and there is a frequent bus service to Rome (beautiful ride through the Apennines). Pescara also has good train connections with the rest of Italy. Pescara Centrale is the main train station, the other two train stations are Pescara Porta Nuova and Pescara San Marco.
