Panama City Airport is officially called Tocumen International Airport, after its location. The airport is of military origin; it was constructed in 1947 to defend the Panama Canal.
The airport is situated 24 kilometers northeast of the city center of Panama City, Panama's capital. There are no train or bus connections between the airport and the capital. The airport is quickly and easily reachable by car via the toll road (Corredor Sur).
The airport has a few restaurants, (snack) bars and shops. There's a VIP lounge and the Riande Airport Hotel offers extensive business services, including the possibility to rent meeting or conference rooms. The airport has some public computers with internet connection. Other facilities at Panama City Airport include exchange offices, ATMs, and a branch of the National Bank of Panama.
