Location information for Kona

Car rental Kona
Introduction
Kona, officially called Kailua Kona, is the largest place on the west coast of the largest Hawaiian island. The Hawaiian kings used to live here, like King Kamehameha I, who united the Hawaiian Islands. Later, missionaries built churches. Kona mainly attracts anglers and people who come snorkeling.
Population
Kailua Kona has approximately 12,000 inhabitants.
Location
The town is located on the west coast of Hawaii, the largest island of the American state of the same name in the Pacific Ocean. Kona lies at the foothills of Volcano Hualalai (2521 meters).
Economy
Tourism is the main source of income for Kailua Kona. The place is also famous for its coffee; the coffee beans are cultivated on the slopes of Volcano Hualalai. Kona coffee is considered one of the best qualities of coffee in the world.
Airports
The city's airport, Kona International Airport, is situated 13 kilometers north of the center. It's easily reachable by rental car via the Queen Kaahumanu Highway (HI-19). The exit to the airport is clearly signposted.
Public Transport
Many budget travelers are surprised when they discover that there's hardly any public transport on Hawaii. There's a free bus service to the capital Hilo, but the schedule is mainly geared towards commuters who travel from their home to work in the capital. There are tourist buses to places of interest, but you have to book them in advance.
Traffic and Parking
Traffic in Kailua Kona and along Kohala Coast has increased in recent years. You can, however, still fairly easily find a parking place for your rental car, both in the city and near the beaches. A rental car is even necessary if you want to see more of Hawaii, given the lack of public transport.
Hotels
There are two prominent seaside resorts on the coast near Kailua Kona, the Kohala Coast: Mauna Lani and Waikoloa Beach. These seaside resorts border on one another and there are accommodations galore: small family hotels, but also luxurious hotels and holiday resorts. You can also rent apartments or complete houses.
