Kahului is a city in the American state of Hawaii. The city itself isn't a tourist destination, but the beaches on the west and east coast of the island of Maui are. In Kahului, the Sugar Museum and the Maui Arts and Cultural Center are worth a visit. Cruise ships moor in Kahului's harbor.

The city has almost 30,000 inhabitants.
Location
Kahului is located on Maui, one of the Hawaiian Islands in the Pacific Ocean. The archipelago lies almost 3800 kilometers west of the nearest point on the American continent (Point Arena in California).
Economy
Tourism is one of the main sources of income of Maui and Kahului. It's also a center for trading of agricultural produce from the island and there's some food-processing industry. In recent years, some high-tech companies have settled in Kahului.
Airports
Kahului Airport is situated directly east of the city. It's reachable by rental car from the center in 10 minutes via the Hana Highway (State Highway) and Kahului Airport Road. The exit to the airport is clearly signposted.
Public Transport
Maui has good public bus transport, exploited by Maui Public Bus Transit System. Rates are low (US$ 1 per ride).
Traffic and Parking
Finding your way around Kahului by rental car isn't difficult. Finding a free parking place shouldn't cause problems either. You can park your rental car on large parking lots near the Kahului Shopping Center, the Queen Kaahumanu Shopping Center and near the harbor.
Hotels
Kahului has a very limited choice of accommodations. There are some hotels near the harbor and some cheap accommodations in the historical quarter Wailuku. Holiday hotels and resorts can be found mainly on the west and south coast of Maui.
