Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport in a nutshell
The new airport of Bangkok is called Suvarnabhumi (Golden Land) and is located 30 kilometres to the east of the city centre. The airport has its share of start-up problems: long walking distances, a lack of places to sit and toilets, problems with the asphalt of the runways. The Terminal consists of seven wings.
There is no rail connection to the airport yet, but it is expect in October 2008. There are four high-speed bus services to the centre of the city.
There is one hotel at the airport. In addition, the airport has many (snack) bars, cafés and restaurants, mainly in the departure hall on the fourth floor. That is also where most of the shops are. In the Departure hall, there is the KP Lounge, which offers business facilities as well as offices and meeting rooms for rent. More extensive business facilities can be found at the Novotel. In the arrival hall there are exchange offices. Cash machines are everywhere in the Terminal. There are also many public telephones and computers with Internet access. Wireless Internet is available. Furthermore, the airport is accessible to disabled people.
In the aviation industry Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport is indicated with the abbreviations BKK (IATA airport code) and VTBS (ICAO airport code).
