Location information for Evenes

Car rental Evenes
Introduction
Evenes is a town in the north of Norway, which is mostly known for the local airport. It is the gateway to the Lofoten Islands, an archipelago off the coast, or to more northern places such as Tromsø. Although the Lofoten Islands lie above the Arctic Circle, there is a mild climate thanks to the warm Gulf Stream. In summer, the beaches on island Vestvågøy are popular. There, there is also an interesting Viking Museum. The Lofoten Islands are an angler's paradise. Furthermore, there are great hiking opportunities and you can go mountain climbing.
Population
Evenes has 1500 inhabitants.
Location
Evenes is located in the north of Norway on the banks of the river Ofotfjord. East of Evenes are the town of Bogen and medium high mountains such as the Lilletinden (1137 m) and the steep Niingen (1090 m).
Economy
Most of the inhabitants of Evenes work in public administration or in agriculture. On the Lofoten Islands, fishery is the main source of income. They mostly catch cod, which is exported in dried form. Furthermore, tourism is increasingly important for the archipelago.
Airports
The airport is located eight kilometers west of Evenes. Harstad/Narvik Airport (also known as Lofoten International Airport) is situated directly on highway E10 and therefore it's easily accessible by rental car. The E10 is also the access way to the Lofoten Islands.
Public Transport
There are regional bus services to several locations on the Lofoten Islands and in the province of Nordland.
Furthermore, there are regular ferry services between the Lofoten Islands and the Norwegian mainland.
Traffic and Parking
There is no heavy traffic on the Lofoten and roads are excellent. You will not find it difficult to discover the charms of this region in your rental car. Finding a parking space will be no problem either, not even in the somewhat larger towns like Harstad and Narvik.
Hotels
On the Lofoten there are only a limited number of guesthouses and hotels. The accommodations consist mainly of summer houses, log cabins, old fishermen's houses and campsites. Tourism to this region is growing rapidly. Especially in the summer, we recommend you to book your accommodation well in advance.
