Introduction
Limoges is the capital of the French department Haut-Vienne in central France. It is an old city, founded in 10 BC by the Roman Emperor Augustus at a crossroad and a ford on the Vienne river. The beautiful Saint-Étienne Cathedral is worth a visit. The greater part of this impressive cathedral was built in the 13th and 14th century.

The city has almost 135,000 inhabitants.
Location
Limoges lies in central France on the Vienne river. Shortly after Limoges, the river turns to the north and finally flows into the Loire. The area consists of wooded hills. In the north lies the Pays de Saint-Pardoux with a lake called by the same name.
Economy
The city is famous for the porcelain it produces. More than half of all French porcelain comes from Limoges. Furthermore, electronics company Legrand has its headquarters here and many high-tech companies are located in the ESTER Technopole.
Airports
The international airport Aéroport de Limoges – Bellegarde lies six kilometers west of the city. The airport is easily accessible by rental car: from the city center follow the N141. The exit to the airport is clearly indicated.
Public transport
The bus company Société des Transports en Commun de Limoges (STCL) provides the city's transport. There is a dense network of buses, and trolley buses run on five lines. At night, buses run on two routes.
Traffic and parking
It is not difficult to find your way around Limoges with a car. Like in any city it is better to avoid rush hour traffic. There are various underground parking garages where you can park you rental car: place de la République, place Franklin-Roosevelt, le Maupas, place d'Aine, and place de la Motte. There is also a large open air parking lot on the Winston-Churchill Square.

Limoges offers a great variety of hotels. There are branches of international chain hotels but also cozy, local hotels. There is also a large variety of camping opportunities in the surrounding area.
