Introduction
San Carlos de Bariloche is a city in Argentina, surrounded by magnificent nature which reminds somewhat of Switzerland. It's a popular tourist destination for people who like long mountain walks and water sports. In winter months it's a popular skiing area.

The city has 130,000 inhabitants.
Location
Bariloche is situated in the far west of Argentina, close to the border with Chili on the shores of lake Nahuel Huapi and at the foothills of the Andes. The city is surrounded by lakes and mountains.
Economy
Tourism is the major source of income for Bariloche. In summer months tourists go on hiking trips in the mountains or practice active water sports on one of the lakes. In winter months there are many ski slopes in the vicinity. In addition chocolate is made and there are some ceramics factories.
Airports
The city airport is situated twelve kilometers west of Bariloche. Teniente Luis Candelaria International Airport is easily reachable via the RN237 (the road along the lake). The exit to the airport is clearly signposted.
Public Transport
Bariloche has an excellent public bus system. There are connections with destinations in and around Bariloche, but there are also long distance busses to other cities in Argentina.
Traffic and Parking
It's not difficult to find your way in and around Bariloche. It can be busy though in the center. Parking in the street is free and you can also park your car at your hotel for free.
Hotels
Bariloche is a popular tourist destination and there's therefore no shortage of accommodation in the city. There's a large offer of budget accommodations, but there are also mid-range and luxury hotels. We do recommend you book your accommodation well in advance.
